Single-Port Superluminescent-Diode Gain-Chip for Tunable Single-Wavelength and Dual-Wavelength Blue-Laser

Reconfigurable photonic technology combining multiple functionalities in a single gain-chip is crucial light-based platform for enabling hybrid applications. Here, we report on achieving widely tunable and reconfigurable blue laser source using single-port gain medium based an InGaN/GaN superluminescent diode (SLD). As compared to laser-diode emitters solely stimulated emission from used as the medium, our amplified spontaneous system capable of fast switching between regimes on-demand use time-incoherent, or time-coherent light with single- dual-wavelengths. The dual-wavelength tunability designed various external cavity (EC) configurations continuous selection smooth transition wavelength 436 nm 443 nm. Moreover, InGaN SLD can amplify optical power within EC configuration by 6.5 dB. Thus, prototype opens up viable route designing sources chip, promises disruptive innovation medical instrumentation, sensing technology, communication.

We report a single-longitudinal-mode CW diode-pumped Nd:YVO(4) laser emitting at both 1064 and 1342 nm with 10% optical efficiency at 20-W pump power. The measured spectral widths at 1064 and 1342 nm were less than 450 MHz and 400 MHz, respectively. The two emission wavelengths can be independently tuned over the lasing bandwidths of the dual-wavelength laser.
